Teen Service Corps gathered at the Manzanita Recreation Center in Marin City on January 20 to celebrate the legacy of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. The day of celebration commenced with a march from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, where community members of all races and religions joined alongside students from the Bayside MLK school marching band. The teens marched to the civil rights-era mantra,”We Shall Overcome,” and the school band played “When the Saints Go Marching In” along the way.
Johnathan D. Logan, pastor at Cornerstone Community Church of God in Christ, started the celebration with an inspirational speech in which he told the group:
“We realize, Lord, the dream has not fully been realized. But we know with steps of action that we can take as a community, these things will come to pass.”
The teens helped to set up before the event at the Manzanita center and joined students as they performed songs and poetry in honor of Dr. King. It was a special way to celebrate Martin Luther King Day!
