Teens Volunteer at Edgewood’s Race Across the Bay

March 29, 2014

On Sunday, March 16, the Teen Service Corps volunteered at the Edgewood Children’s Programs’ 31st Annual RACE ACROSS THE BAY in San Francisco. All proceeds from the race benefited the Edgewood Center for Children and Families, the oldest children’s charity in the Western U.S.

Each year, Edgewood children and youth in both San Francisco and San Mateo train to run the last mile of the race.  For some of our kids, this becomes a life-changing experience and sets them on a course of higher self-esteem and healthy living.

According to TSC volunteer Max Fennema, the group had a lot of fun: “We were stationed at the finish line at aquatic park and were responsible for encouraging the runners, writing down finish times and helping with crowd control at the finish line. A lot of Edgewood kids ran the race, and it was an eye opener that they had the motivation to run at such a young age.”
